Changing Steering Wheel

Post by mfunsta »

Morning,
I'm swapping my std transporter wheel for the caravelle type but, I can't see directly how to prise the horn push off the caravelle wheel to get to fitting the spline nut.
Any pointers before I break something!
cheers
ps size of spline nut?

Gentle use of a flat-bladed screwdriver as a lever may be needed. The rest is as Steve says ... be a good idea to check the horn contact ring on the back of the wheel and the contact on the rear of the wiper/indicator controls and apply some vasoline or similar lubricant

If the ring's worn swap it for the better of the 2 they're a straight swap.

Ian.

Make sure your front wheels are pointing dead straight (and I mean dead straight) before you take your steering wheel off.

Otherwise you'll be taking it off a few more times before it sits right :D

Oh just in case you like your neighbours.....

Disconnect your battery or you are liable to wake the neighbourhood, unless your horn is as asthmatic as mine.
If you can't weld it try bostic!!

Horn shouldn't work with the ignition is off. If it does someones been messing, I'd be careful then as they might not have bothered to fuse it.

Standard horn ring in a caravelle wheel is a bit tight as the wire is shorter on the standard wheel, but it just fits.
