Yes, the original VW ones take a lot of beating, seem to last 15 ~20 years, about 3 to 4 x as long as modern BMW ones last from what I've been told...
Fronts partic. seem built for a very long life.

The standard Bilstein's from just kampers are original manufacturer quality, German made and pretty good value for the quality.
They sell cheaper but quality suffers

Good spring compressor... and use a thick spanner to hold the flats on the top of the damper rod when undoing the nut through the hole in the floor (i.e. don't round those flats off)

Oh well..
yes Cofap are, er, a bit crap!
OE dampers are Boge, but this is the same company as Sachs, the Sachs dampers are good, Boge and Sachs are made on the same line by the same people, they are the same part in everything but name.
Al-Ko, the famous manufacturer of dampers (or was it trailers?).
In all honesty, and this isn't anything to do with anything I sell but my experience of those dampers is leaks, leaks and a few leaks.
To me, if your wanting dampers, standard ones then either the Sachs ones, or Bilsteins and at a push the Monroe ones aren't bad.
Ah, yes Monroe ones... sexy shockers
It's getting then, they're so.exp.here? Belgium or is it Holland where the big Monroe factory is?
