Eberspacher BW5 night heater on syncro

Post by msr »

Hi all

sorry it's just a heater question but because fuel tank is rear mounted it's kind of syncro specific.

Just trying to get the night heater working on my Dec92 ex-finish ambulance 16incher. Fan starts like a 747 jet (If I ever get it going I'll need ear plugs). Glow plug seems to warm up. Then pump starts clicking away but no fuel delivered. Any ideas?
Pretty hard to see where the fuel supply is coming from. Anyone out there with a syncro know if it's likely to be a seperate feed from the tank or tapped into the normal fuel supply somehere?

cheers
matt

I know where the fuel pump gets it's juice from, which is a small tee in the non pressurised 11mm fuel line infront of the engine fuel pump. The pump was missing on mine, as I have heard that in some countries the heaters get decomissioned after 10 years. On all the ones that I have seen the fuel pump is mounted further forward on a chassis rail, and then fed back again.

Thanks simon. I'll see if the pump actually has a supply!

Hey Matt, did you get the production date from VW, my chassis was made on Oct 7th 1991, and not registered by the Finnish army till april 1992.

Did you locate the fuel pump, it should pulse, and if you have the thin white plastic piping, should squirt 12" of fuel out the end if you disconnect from the heater and switch on.

Simon.

Hi simon

Dec92 is registration date. Not checked when it was made yet. Doesn't look like an ambulance as has large white aero roof on it, in fact doesn't really look like a t3!. Will look better when all same camo. Will post some pics when I get a camera.

not able to play with it 2day. Pump was clicking away but no fuel coming out. Took outlet pipe off it to make sure not blocked.

I'll try and find the junction in your picture 2morrow!

cheers

matt
