What van should I get

Got a westy poptop but would recommend the Hitop for someone in your situation with young kids.

When looking for a van my first choice was a pop top so I could use it as an every day vehicle if needed. I am usually on my own when using the van so lack of storage space wouldn't be a problem. Having previously had a 5 berth overcab I was thinking mainly about carpark height barriers. Some of the pop tops I looked at were well over the 2 metre height of the barriers anyway and non of them would go in my garage. I finished up with a high top which I think is great except when there is more than a light cross wind when you are constantly correcting to keep the thing heading in a straight line!!

Twin slider Hi-top..gives the added benefit of TWO awnings, our has detachable cooking facilities, so we can slide it all out into the awning if we are staying a long time on one site. and it has a full siz bed which will sleep two adults and two kids if you want. As well as the upper comfy bed. We can accomodate 2 + 2 +2 2 Up top and one accross fron seats..so we can take a crowd if we want.

Make sure ya get dual voltage if on site its a godsend to have 240v..

A lined hi-top is so cosy and you can stick all kindsa stuff to it with velcro to stop things moving around. But make sure there is a nice rooflite in the hightop to let out heat & fresh air in and an escape route if a fire breaks out.

Hi Top.

If you have kids its a MUST. You really can shove tons up there. Useful if you want to go the said shops whilst you are camping. rather than leaving it all in the tent etc.

They look a bit odd, but as its a camper...your more concerned with the INSIDE

Hi-top, and buy a Syncro then you can just drive straight onto the beach an not bother with the car park.

I have a Pop top Devon Moonraker and the height is 2.135 metres so it is not correct to say that pop tops can get in car parks with barriers as they are nearly always at 2 metres. The occasional one says 2 metres but is actually set higher.
Have tried lowering the suspension but couldn't stand the rough ride.

Our full length pop top does have the advantage that when you are camped with the roof up you have got loads of room for the camping chairs, tables, sleeping bags, rucksack, boots etc.etc.or you can take the kids with you and stuff them up there when it is raining!

However, the poptop looks sleeker, lower and more stylish and I am sure does not use as much petrol. so I would not part with it to anyone! Or am I biased?
