If possible, you would in the long term be better off getting it entirely up to DG spec. They run really well in good nick
It's so easy to take the compressions before you go any further, they'd tell you a lot now and allow comparison later...

Sorry for late reply, but I use Macromedia Fireworks for most of my graphics work, though I'm now starting to make use of Serif Drawplus & Pageplus which have some really great features at an affordable price.
I use ACDSee, E D I T mode... not quite as flexible or powerful I imagine, but gets the job done...
ACDSee is a great photo browser!

DF
*shudders*
ALL DG's came with a 2E, those single choke solexs come from DF's.
What has probably happened is when the DF has blown up (because all WBX's eventually blow up) someone has done the right thing and put a DG in there instead.
Then, people come along and read what the engine numbers says then get all confused.
ALL DF's came with the Solex, ALL DG's had the Pierburg.
DF's had smaller inlet posts and smaller valves as well as the crap single choke.
If you have a DG with a DF carb fitted, again, do the right thing and put that Solex in the bin and replace it with the DG Pierburg and revel in that 7hp or whatever the difference is!

I would guess you're spot-on there, Simon, but to change that carb I'll also have to source a DG manifold. The most worrying bit there is getting hold of the gaskets outside a full gasket set, as I reported elsewhere I just bought two of the last 4 in the country, after which they're obsolete with VW, and nobody else seems to have stock.
Unless you know different...
Anyway, as it's running pretty well as it is, I'm in no desperate hurry, and I'll look to upgrade when I have a little more time and money (having just set up no.1 daughter at university, my wallet is looking a little thin!)
