dash lights

Post by DoKa90 »

Okay, I've tried a few searches and the Wiki but to no avail.

The dash illumination lights failed this morning, both of them together, so it must be a fuse, I thought. Found fuse #2 had gone so replaced it but it hasn't fixed the problem.

Meanwhile, my alternator light stays on permanently, although the alternator is okay, and the blue main beam light doesn't work. These two are problems which the van has had since I got it in March this year. Could they be related?

I haven't taken the instrument panel off yet as I'm not at home. The van is a 1990 crewcab diesel.

Just thought I'd see if some bright spark had any quick ideas...

And check the security of the long black connector that plugs into the rear of the dashboard... Right hand side when the covers off. Could have slipped off slightly and shorted with another track hence the blown fuse.

Should be 3 bulbs in the dash, 4 if you have digi clock. Unlikely to all go together though I've known old working ones to die if you dare to disturb them. There should be another in the heater switch, fag lighter and rear screen switch if aplicable so if they still work its a dead giveaway the dash plug/earth is playing up not the fuse (assuming they haven't died long ago and not been noticed/fixed). Fuse is above relays next to rear fog fuse, not in big row with others.

Thanks guys.

I didn't know there was meant to be a light behind the heater controls until I did a search for this problem. That's never worked. and the cigarette lighter still lights up alright. Handy to know what's on the same circuit, so thanks...
