Inverness long shot...accelerator cable

Post by mikey9 »

My mate on his way up here has snapped his accelerator cable (1.6TD) - he is being recovered to me tomorrow (Sunday).

Don't suppose anyone has a spare accelerator cable up here - otherwise we will have to try a bodgeroo and Hawco (VW dealer) on Monday.....

I know it prob should be in Wanted but tis also technical

I have made temporary repairs to various cables by using a chocolate box type electrical connector, the one that has two small screws in it to join wires. This only works if it has snapped where it is not in an outer sheath, but may be of help. You can cut away the plastic outer to make it smaller.

Many motor bike and push bike shops sell the braided inner cable off a roll.

You just use you existing outer cable.

Just make sure the cut end of your new braided cable is neat so it doesn't snag as you push it through.

I just replaced mine this way :)
