Yet another rear seat belt topic

I'm going to fit a 3 point seat belt in the rear of the camper. It's a converted panel van.

I have done the searches and read the wiki but I'm not really confident as to what work needs doing.

What existing mounting holes will I have and where will I need to drill if at all?

Will the mounting plates need welding to the inner panels or will bolting through them when they are positioned behind the panel suffice?

How many mounting plates will I need?

Sorry to be a pain and dregding up an old subject.

Hi Cruz.

1. My panel van Had NO mounting holes at all
2. My friendly welder drilled holed in the flat bits on the engine bulkhead (have a look at the metal tha goes from the top of the engine bat to the floor. It is ridged, like the floor. But you will see some flat bits. That is where we put the mounts for the first set of belts as Ihad a rocke and roll bed.
3. I then changed the interior, and the belts had to move back towards the engine bay lid....another trip to mr welder!
4. The hole for the three point was achieved by removng the plastic air vents and, yes myou guessed it mr welder put a bholt in there too!

I have lap belts fitted so I assume I can use some of those existing mounting points?

Yeah no prob, just kampers do a rear kit, it depends on what furniture you have??

You will never get a three point seat belt for the middle if you have three.

You can fix the third mount on the panel behind the air grill on the d pillar. There will be a little dimple to mark the spot, but anywhere will do. You can just use a seatbelt mounting plate, and weld it on, inside or behind the grill. Or just drill a hole and use large washers or a loose seat belt plate to firmly fix it in place.

Take a look at mine if you want next time you're over. Steve did mine for me, and I got the 3 point belt from JK. Although it was labelled up transit i think, so you might be able to just get a transit one from a scrapper if you wanted to save some money.

I now know what to do with the upper mounting point. It's just the lower one I want to look at as i can't see the area on mine at the moment as Leisuredrive decided to glue plywood to the inner panels rather than use the proper panel boards

Can't see the point in 2nd hand seat belts considering how important they are in the event of an accident. Especially when new ones are only £35. The front seat belts are starting to fluff at the edges too (plus they don't retract and get stuck in the door) so they will be coming out sometime in the middle of next year after we've had the welding work done.

no worries, £35 aint too bad yeah, I think i paid closer to £50 for mine from memory... make sure you get the longer one for T25's or you won't have much room to move...

Yeah your right £47.50. I was quoting the front price. 2nd hand are OK if they are fairly new and not as old as the van.

So I assume I need to drill a hole for the lower fixing point where the spool mounts and fit an adaptor bracket?

On the jk one the spool attaches to the D pillar, the other end fits down by the wall, and the stalk fits on the other side. It is not fantastically pretty, but it does work. Vw fitted the spool behind the rear side panel, near where the rear washer resevoir is if you have one.
