GTI conversion fuel pump/pressure issues
Hi all need some info or help with this issue done my 20l 8v conversion ages ago but i have this problem with the fuel pressure droping off.
My van was a 1,6td i kept the same tank and used the standard golf fuel pump setup which was a digifant, the pump is mounted just to the rear of the tank. I know some people have done this conversion i would like to know where you put your pump and if you had any probs when my pump is hanging down the van is fine but when fixed back up under the van it struggles and cuts out any help would be great cheers ....................

Not the same no, has a cutout where the starter goes and if a Doka filler pipe comes in different place, bu feed is the same I think...
Those blinkin PB?/GTI fuel pumps, nothing but probs... think there's more to fitting them than meets the eye.
Shocking in hot weather too, pack up constantly...
I'd ditch it and try to find something simple, maybe 2.1 DJ pump (30 psi) would do... a lot of the info on tjose conversions is getting lost. Maybe try a dedicated GTi forum?

Think this guy has a 2wd, Though not stated! Just went by his description of where the pump is hanging! Think he needs a injection 2wd tank as they have a larger fuel delivery pipe 8 or 10mm??? or round abouts!

Hi pal my van is a 2wd 1.6td do you think thats the answer to fit a 2.1 tank if it has a larger fuel outlet and do they fit ok. wot is happening is the van cant keep the golf fuel pump supplied and its draining the little tank it has.I mounted it about 2 feet away from the tank in between the chassis rails didnt want it getting hit by owt
I really don't know but Andy@Syncro-Nutz has suggested it's the tank outlet diameter that's the problem, so best assume he's right on that.
These pumps for injecti systems seem to work overtime to maintain full pressure at full flow all the time, using recirculation of any unused fuel. If starved they tend to overheat in my experience, which isn't much to be honest! However, I've had need to curse them a few times... if that qualifies
I might suggest you consider a 2.1 DJ electric pump, which you might find less sensitive in these matters, and believe they produce about 28 psi, but again, there's a shortage of experience on my part there, other than I know they're used succesfully for Subaru conversions...

Golfs had 2 fuel pumps, there is a lift pump in the tank to provide fuel at slight presure to the main pump.
My pump (1.8 8v gti) is mounted close to the tank and slightly lower than outlet so that there is always a head of fuel above the pump to keep it primed. it's never played up. Bus originally had a 1.9 WBX.
Is yours better with a full tank?

Hi pal yes it is when the pump is hanging down its running fine but soon as i fix it back up it cutting out. Hi all finished the van and its all fine i went with the 2.1 tank and original pump just got to take it back to the garage and have it set up on the machine thanks for all the help cheers karlos ps the bus will be coming up for sale soon al try and load a picture let us know if you fancy it........
