110V Hook-up

Okay, still trying to learn how it all works...and slowly getting there. I am trying to spruce the brick into shape to go to France next year and I am sure I am missing something obvious.

I have 240V hook-up and sockets within the van, but how does this work on the continent? I have the hook-up leads donated by a family member with some french adaptors for the big blue socket. However, what is it I need to run Uk appliances of my internal electrics? Especially the likes of portabel DVD players to keep the kids quiet if they have a summer like our last one!

I am installing a 3-way fridge and this is (will be) connected to the 240V supply, but can it work on the continent on mains electric or can I only run it on gas?

the only place i know of that uses 110v is the usa! in fracne and as far as i know the rest of europe the voltage is 230v, the only difference is that the frequency is 60Hz not 50Hz like here.

you should be ok to use anything you'd use at home in europe but if you are not sure check the label on the appliance it'll tell you what voltage(s) it'll work on and the same for freq.

I don't completely rely on what is said on WIKI but this chart is generally correct apart from the UK where I believe we had an adjustment some years ago to take our supply down to 230volts. (there are of course always power fluctuations so plus or minus 5% isn't unheard of) fairly strict in this country but less so abroard and in the US where spikes are common.

We are a part of Europe now and therefore our Electrical supply is the same as everywhere else.

230V at 50Hz. So its plug and play within Europe.

Thanks for your responses...should have thought it through a bit more really. At least I can rest assured that I wont go mad at the hands the kids...unless Thomas the Tank Engine is on loop, but at least will be able to drink cold beers while it happens.
