Syncro 16 : Oil pressure light not working

Post by msr »

Found out why it's not working, obvious really! There's no red LED fitted in the dash and illumination bulb holder near it also missing ??? Very strange, hopefuly someone innocent explanation, bus came via busman so I don't suspect anything wrong with the seller. Anyhow I swapped in the altenator warning LED and it all seems to works fine stopped/running. Does anyone know an approx spec. for the LED. Otherwise I'll have to order a VW one.

cheers

Dodgy oil pressure

Post by msr »

yes very dodgy! actually light does start flashing after driving a bit.

Picked van up in the middle of the night when very tired so didn't notice LED not coming on before startup!

Sender has two wires but I assume it's just a simple on/off pressure switch. The red sender wire has been bypassed with a retrofitted brown one. Interestingly pulling both the wires off the sender / or shorting them together makes no difference to behaviour at all. Hopefully it's all a wiring issue not an engine issue, it drove 400 miles fine.

Out with the multi-meter later. I'll check the sender first with the engine on/off.

Makes me suspect that when I replace the mising power steering belt it'll leak or make no difference. Time will tell....

cheers

Might have some LEDs out an old Sirocco dash if your interested, suspect they'll fit. Will be a couple of weeks before I can get them though. Earthing the wire on the low presure switch (theres a sepereate switch for higher oil presure when the engines running at speed) should trigger the LED. If the switch has 2 wires its probubly not a self earthing switch so will have a brown earth wire aswell.

Wireing diag seems to say low presure is blue/black and high presure is yellow, but both turn brown somewhere in the engine bay before the switches? No mention of red wires. :?
