tail pipe fitting

Post by matcapp »

Hi all,
I'm fitting a new tail pipe as the other has rusted off!
Has anyone any tips on how to remove the rusted plate as the bolts have no grip at all...drill?
many thanks

just the tail pipe ? try a stud remover , aldi or lidl have them in store at the mo , very cheap so may only up to it once ,

grind the heads off and try a good pair of mole-grips on the stud , is this fails to turn them then grind them flush and drill/stud extract them out , re tap the holes and bob's at it again

If you have access to a welder you could weld a decent size nut to the tops of the rounded bolts and then you should get them moving, i'm going to have to do this to mine as could only get 1 of the 3 out when i tried.

In fact if it is the same as my WBX just cut them off flat, drill clearence holes and fit short bolts maybe with stiffnuts. No need for any more threaded holes than necessary on an exhaust system!

So far so bad!
Ive managed to twist the heads off with a bolt grip...so it looks like drilling through the headless bolts and starting again...what a pain!
