They are similar but not the same.
They are the same size but the mountings are not exactly the same.
MK1 lights can be fitted to T25 headlamp brackets with some mods by re drilling and filing the mounting points.
I have fitted MK1 lights because I wanted the Angel eye rings (See my garage). After much consideration I cut and welded the golf and T25 brackets together to get the best fit and they are still fully adjustable.

No drilling required to fit Mk1 lights into van buckets, just trim one clip and mark the adjusters properly.

If you get a set I could do it for you in an hour :D

These ones did require drilling! But it was a straight forward enough job.

What did you use for brackets on the inner spots Mike?

I've done a set before but wondered how you had done it.

The outers are mounted in the standard lamp carriers. For the inners, I didn't have any brackets so I cut some aluminium sheet to make some rings to fit round the holes and bonded them on the back of the grill. Prior to bonding, the rings were drilled and fitted with some bolts to make posts for the golf inner lights, which were fitted using an assortment of washers and nylocks.
