Leaky Oil Cooler
I had a look under mine today 'cos it's dripping oil for fun, and I noticed when it was running it was dripping oil from the area where the oil cooler meets the block. I know it's hard to tell without looking, but is it more likely to be the seals or the cooler, and how hard are they to change - either part - with the engine in the van. Daily driver and all. 2ltr CU by the way. The oil seems to be all over the engine from front to back, but I guess it's to do with the cooling fan blowing it round the system.

The cooling fan does chuck it everywhere, you're not wrong there!
Its a pretty easy job but the tinware can be a bit of a pain as some of it needs to be removed to take the oil cooler off. I would check the tightness of the three securing nuts first but don't do them up any tighter then the specified torque as its easy to strip the threads in the block.
Check also that the leak isn't coming from either the base of the fuel pump or the breather tube oil seperator... Two other favourite places for oil to leak out of!
The oil cooler has 2 rubber washers in between the block and the cooler and the oil flows through those so it should just be a replacement jobbie for them and problem solved with any luck!

I deffo think it's coming from the cooler. I started it up an got under it and you could see the oil forming into a drop, falling off then another then another, every 5 seconds or so. Oil near the fuel pump, but not the fresh dripping kind if you know what I mean. Haynes says you have to drop the engine but looking at it, I think you just have to take off the fan housing - famous last words obviously! Just wondered if anybody actually has done it in situ. I nipped up 2 of the bolts about a half a turn, but couldn't see the third. Maybe tomorrow now I know where it is - I read the Haynes after I got back in!

Leakey Oil Cooler
I have same problem.Have nipped up me bolts but the oil keeps a dripping.Looks like dropping the lump out unless anyone knows a shortcut

I had a look at the oil switch today with the engine running. I couldn't see anything but obviously all the tinware is in the way. Looking straight down from the top I couldn't see anything leaking from around it but there was still oil coming from the end of the cooler. I might try taking the switch off tomorrow, before attempting to remove the cooler at the weekend. Got my 45p each seals today from JK - can't wait to do it, should be so easy!
