Starter change and bush or not

Post by ricp »

I'm going to have to change the starter motor and solenoid on my camper as the positive strap beteen both has completely rotted away. This would explain the increasingly poor and del :?: ayed starting as it gradually got down to one strand.
However the bush looks ok and would appear to be a pain to change. Is it too much of a risk not to bother for a £1 part or would it be a further job I wished I'd never started?
Thanks in advance.

i've had to replace the bush on my starter motor twice, as this has worn out before the starter motor, so I would say yeah fit a new one. I think you're supposed to soak the bush overnight in oil too.

No need to soak it overnight. Good tip from Simon Baxter;

Balance bush on your thumb, fill it with oil and squeeze between thumb and forefinger until you see the oil start to ooze out of the sides of the bush :)
