Oil Filter

Is it possible to take off the oil filter without dropping the oil out of the sump? I have a small oil leak from somewhere round the filter, filter housing or oil cooler and I'd like to unscrew the filter and have a look without dropping the oil if it poss. 2ltr Aircooled CU engine.

Yes, no problem. You'll may be lose a dribble as you unscrew the filter so be ready to catch it.
Possible leaks in that area are from oil cooler and its mounting or the filter mounting itself.
