auto electrician has traced my non starting fault to the dizzy so now need to fit replacement, to take out the dizzy i want the rotar arm to face the notch in the dizzy body undo and fit new dizzy. im used to 1600 and early cj engines how do you turn the pulley wheel to get the dizzy where u want it. the only easy way i can think of is jack it up in gear and use the wheel to turn the rotor arm . is there a simpler way? there seems no way of grabbing the pulley wheel.
which vacumn pipe do i remove etc when timing?

Turning engine
You could do as you just described, or you could take a couple of plugs out and turn the engine via the alternator belt, or you could try pushing the van forward in 2nd or 3rd gear with a plug or two out, this will allow you to watch/position the rotor.
This is assuming that the van is parked safely on level ground, and not liable to run away.
Have some wood blocks laid a little way in front of van wheels as a safety precaution, so it can't go too far.

Turning it over by hand
I have made up a specific tool (incorporating a half inch sq socket) that fits in the hole in the middle of the fan on the end of the crankshaft - there's a slot to engage a peg and I use a selection of socket extensions and a T-bar to turn the crank - useful for checking valve clearances.
You have to take the mesh fan guard off but that's only 3 screws.
You leave the vac pipes connected on these injuns AFAIK.
