I'm afraid to say, I have highlighted this 'tip' constantly in the WIKI. Thin coats are the only way to do it. Try to cut corners and you'll replicate the moons surface and have a LOT of work to do getting it flat again.

thick first coat to cover.....BAD IDEA, have now covered mostly with second thin coat, but terrible runny finish.....Will flatten back in spring....sure to recover ???????????????

JUST A TIP

if youve got bad runs in the paint id suggest you wipe off those areas with a thinners rag , otherwise it'l take years to dry properly

best get the runs off and see how it feels in 2 weeks , ive been able to flatten heavily brushed areas after a couple of weeks

if your leaving till spring , id be tempted after 2 weeks to bang a thick brush on coat around the sills, arch lips and and all the places that rust but are not that easily seen

use a good quality brush and a little spirit and it glides on pretty nice

should be nice n dry by spring

Can anyone point me in the direction of a picture of a van in any shade of dark grey? It would be nice to visualize what the van would look like in that colour

Quite fancy RAL 7034 but cannot find it for sale anywhere.

 Read the WIKI several times and only just noticed this gem on Lawsons

"Best deal I found as they said they offered full range. They mailed me with the following info:
Combicolor is available in the full range of RAL, BS4800, & BS381C colours along with many OEM colours"

Cheers Cov

PS. The other half seems set on dark grey.
Anyone used that colour?
And could they post up an image?, as I'm not convinced

Sorry I meant 7034 and not 7037

Do you think so? The wife does but I'm yet to be convinced and think a brighter colour would be best. It's hard to visualise what the van would look like in a particular non standard vw colour

The grey would give it class. I can see what she means. Anyone seen 'camper crisis' on discovery? I believe that was a similar colour - looked the biz.

She is now saying it was 7034 that she liked and that I misheard her but now I'm more inclined to go with the grey 7037
