AAZ Sump options
Just wondering if it is possible to use a sump from a 1.7D on an AAZ type engine from a donor vehicle, Golf for example? Anybody got any ideas?

Use the 1.7D sump if you leave the turbo oil return in it's AAZ/TDI position, personally I wouldn't as you really need oil to be draining from the turbo so it doesn't get baked in there when the engine is knocked off, with the drain to the sump a'la JX then oil is free to return and extend the life of your turbo.

Hi, Im running a 1.6/1.7 sump on my TDI....using the standard TDI oil return back to the block.
Simon is right, if you can get the oil back to the sump, its a safer bet, having said that, I've now done 26,000 miles with no problems, If you know anybody handy with metal, you could make a return spigot on the oil filler pipe where it bolts up to the sump, simply get someone to weld a spigot to the pipe, this will give you a nice 'low return' position, back to the sump, and should be really easy to do, I dont know why nobody has done it yet???? (Perhaps I will be the first?)
