wet footwells

When it rains my footwells get soaked, passenger side is on the mat but drivers side is wet under the mat, (more of a problem) where the hell is it coming in from???

Chances are it is coming in through the front screen in the bottom corners. They tend to trap water there and rot the panel. If you lift the lip of the seal up in the corners you may see what I mean, hopefully not though!! I had to have mine welded up and a new seal

If you haven't got the rust problem a new seal was about £30 ish. They are still available from VW if you're not bothered about the chrome insert option (these are obsolete).
I welded mine up during resto so cant tell you how much but doubt it would be very expensive to get the welding done. Could you paint it yourself? You would need to do this before having new rubber fitted of course

just lifted the rubber and what a suprise! a dirty big hole was revealed. I thought i had got a bargain but now all these little things are popping up! oh well thats the joys of owning a Volkswagen i supose.

Yep we've just had to have ours done too. Went in the passengers side bottom corner and the driver's side top corner

I had a look under the insulation in my driver's footwell and it was soaking even though it hasn't rained in days. I thought the window washer fluid bottle might be overspilling and it's not so thanks for the heads up on the windscreen seal.

I think i've seen some sort of sealant for windscreens. In which case that might be the way ahead.

or

What about paying my £50 excess to have the windscreen replaced? Having never claimed on a policy, i'll have to check out what that would mean precisely.

Frost do a windscreen sealant which they sell on ebay, but for some reason I can't get the url to copy across accurately. Item number is 380054958001

I've used it recently and it's a lot easier to apply than Tiger Seal and silicone sealants imho (not that I'd use silicone sealants where it would have contact with metal bodywork). However I'd recommend putting barrier cream on your hands if you're gonna smooth it off with your fingertips, because once it has dried onto your skin it won't come off and takes days to disappear.

Also need to remember that the water could be coming in around the wiper spindles, washer jets and aerial.

What would happen in this scenario: a windscreen replacement company comes out via your insurance and removes windscreen and old seal, only to find that the metal of the window aperture was corroded and needs welding?

Or would they not remove the seal (in which case a new windscreen may not stop the leak)?

Anybody on here got any experience of getting the "professionals" out in an attempt to cure a leaking windscreen?

I love this forum, it's like talking to God and getting answers...not that I talk to God you understand, it was a metaphor....

Think i'll leave the windscreen where it is until i'm sure that when removing it, I won't discover huge jobs to do as I am not prepared to deal with such things yet.
