T 25 with 5 cyl motor. What you think ?

Post by Trooper25 »

I'm just about to start an Audi 5 pot conversion.
With SA bellhousing and 4 speed box. Plus 2.2 turbo motor.
Going into G reg. Caravelle.
If anyone has any knowledge of this type of conversion.

Having looked at this myself (and working on a non-turbo 5 cylinder conversion) I assume you are using the 10v 2.2 with 170bhp?

You need:
Bellhousing
Clutch (228mm)
Flywheel
Exhaust
Clutch slave cylinder bracket
Engine cradle
Chassis mounts

(anything else?)

The issues you might run up with are where the turbo wastegate meets the body as well as the turbo itself. The wastegate hangs off the back of the block at a weird angle and you may need to cut out some of the rear bulkhead. The turbo itself might foul the chassis rail.

Keep us posted on your progress. There are a few 5 cylinder conversions going on at the moment and it would be good for us all to swap notes.

Wow should be good, really want to keep the heat down in the engine bay as that saps performance, it's bad enough in my Urs and the engine's are in the front of them. I was thinking of stuffing either a 136bhp n/a 10v or a 170bhp n/a 20v in my doka. What engine code is the turbo motor cos I've got a load of 10v turbo bits and bobs laying around in the garage (bit of a hoarder me). Look forward to seeing some pics on here.

Good luck with it, Andy e

My 10v turbo would do about 25-30 to the gallon as long as your weren't clogging it all the time and you get used to driving a car with a bit of turbo lag after a while.

AFAIK the 10V turbo is the KG code engine.

Audi 200 turbo engine, I expect most of the electrical bits I've got would be no good as my bits are for a MB code 10v. You can always cross reference them on ETKA and find out what models share parts. Once my 10v is sold I won't have much use for the parts I've got.

Drove the 10v 5 pot home today! Brill. 8)
Lost a drop of oil from between belhouseing and engine.
Smooth as silk.
Turbo is not boosting fully .
I suppose it needs a sesh on the rolling road (or some good advice)
I'll keep you posted on the developments as they happen ! :P

Also the metreing head is all to "cock" thanks to the MOT man
Going to try new leads and plugs at weekend and have a fiddle with the
