No expert, but MIG = Metal Inert Gas and leave a slag free weld. Flux core MIG isn't really MIG. It's more an auto feed arc weld. I've used both as well as flux core wire with inert gas. Flux core doesn't require metal to be as clean and can be used in low wind. MIG will not. Sorry I can't help more.

I use brewery C02 but realise it would be easier if I used Argon mix but it don't last in the little bottles specially once opened.
My brother uses Gassless and seems to do some half decent welding with it. (He went over to Gassless since I insisted he get my big bottle filled if it ran out on him while in his posession!)
If you ae only welding once in a blue moon it ain't really worth getting set up with expensive kit which will lay idle in your workshop/shed and probably get used more by your mates.
Whatever you use is best if you go downd to clean meal before you start. I use a Black and Decker power file with cut down sander belts to economise. Angle grinders can destroy good metal if used carelessly.
Cheers
