age old dashlights problem with a twist....todays update

Post by oldiguana »

eyup ducks, ive searched the threads first before posting but cant find one with these symptoms.....the dash lights work fine but as soon as you turn the ignition key they go out,and the main beam light also fails to work then....any ideas lads as shes getting constantly flashed for having her main beam on...........thanks in advance
UPDATED OWDUCKS!!!!!!!!!!
finally got round to having a look, and mocki and the others were right, bad earth.....dont have the time to trace one so i soldered an extra earth behind the pod and the lights have never been that bright in the 3 years of owning it........must be a real good earth pig somewhere.....main beam light now works n the clock lights work so well she rung me from morrisons to tell me that the speedo wonna workin.....ard forgot to connect the speedo due to mass hysteria at gettin the lights workin.....cheers to all once again..........be b*******d without the input

sounds like your LED is in the wrong way round.

Had the exact same problem with my indicator LED the other day.

I had this and it was a bad earth behind the fusebox, cleaned up the contacts and cured. As long as you haven't rewired the LED it can't be that.

if i was trying to solve this one, i would indeed in the first instance run a fresh earth wire from the clock multiplug to a new earthing point close by, say on the air duct/ channel with a good clean self drilling , selft threading screw. You may find at this point the problem isnt solved, but its narrowed it down to the multiplug onto the dash pod, that needs cleaning, because you do have a good earth up to this point.

of coarse, it maynot be here where the earth problem is, but im pretty sure it will be

thats the way i would go.......... others may disagree.........?
