The Doka wheel holder is great as long as you don't want to lower the tailboard. Pretty pointless as it makes the Doka less practical when the idea is to do the opposite.

Rear Wheel Carrier

Post by LLOYDIE »

I have bought 2 of Syncro Pete's carriers and I was very impressed with the finished result!! Very good quality and well worth the money. I use one of them dailey for work and it has given me so much more space in the back. Dont waste your time with getting one 'made up' These carriers have had alot of time and effort put into them....you can tell by the end result. Go on treat yourself. :D

Gowesty have a nice twin unit, that carries a water/fuel container as well...nearly 600 bucks though..depends what ya want.

Kev

This double swing away carrier is just plain awesome! We designed this one to work exclusively with our plate steel rear bumper that has the 2" integrated hitch. (Other versions that fit our Vanagon and Eurovan class 3 hitches coming soon.) It installs in minutes and requires no drilling into the body of your Vanagon. Many folks out there want the flexibility to carry a spare tire, fuel and water when they are headed out into the backcountry, without the need for the carrier to be permanently bolted to the vehicle. Our hitch-mounted double swing away does just that! Use it when you need it"leave it in the garage when you don't.

It can be ordered with your choice of accessory mounts. The standard set up is one (1) tire mount, and one (1) gear tray. However, if you would prefer to carry two (2) tires, or have two (2) gear trays, you can simply order it that way.

Product Features:

· Double swing away function allows for easy rear hatch access.

· Tire carrier accommodates 24"-31" tires on 5x112 bolt pattern wheels.

· Gear tray (26" x 13.5") with expanded steel base for up to four (4) Wedco fuel & water cans or whatever else you may need to carry, like coolers, firewood or a generator. Several rounded openings in the support bars underneath provide ample tie down locations for securing your gear.

· Lockable latches and safety pins on cable lanyards ensure the swing away arms stay securely in place and provide additional security for your rear hatch door.

· Need to tow? No problem! A built-in 2" receiver allows for towing or additional accessories to be used while the rack is installed.

· Carrier features all steel construction and is finished in the same satin black wrinkle finish powdercoat as our bumper sets.

You'll also need to specific bumper for it to attach too... another 800 greenbacks. I'd hate to think what shipping would be on those two together - especially with Import Duty and VAT on top

Yeh, nice but unfortunately everything not always as it seems, $wise on your doorstep

· Tire carrier accommodates 24"-31" tires on 5x112 bolt pattern wheels.

Mmm, 'd be a shame if it used any other pattern

just fitted my spare wheel carriers yesterday bought a pair from jaeger http://www.syncro-bernd-jaeger.de/ENGLI ... taten.html they are ortec and work out at 275 euros each or 540 euros for the pair they sit lower than the other carriers which make for better visibilty but slightly obscure the tail lights but not to any great extent mike aka busman also does an upgraded copy of the ortec ones for about 3-400 euro not sure but check his site at busman.be
