In the event of a lost or broken key, the key code can be obtained from three possible locations on the outside door handle (after removal).

A - Release lever (which apears to mean the door release arm from picture)
B - Front hold down hook (bit where bolt that holds the handle on the door goes into)
C Transfer lever (lock/unlock arm with 2 spikes on end of lock cylinder)

Thats all the clues in bentley! Theres a picture of a cab handle, I think they are the only ones with a number on (unless anyone knows different). Its all under the plastic gasget. Make sure the area is very clean - a bit of dirt is very good at completely obscureing little numbers even if it looks pritty clean, I think its 4 digits. My van didn't have genuine handles when I got it so I've never seen a key number stamped on one.

Genuine replacement handles don't seem to be numbered at all, my genuine replacements wern't but they come with a new pair of logo'd keys with number tag, VW probubly didn't stamp them because some people would retumble them before fitting to match the rest of the van hence the number would be wrong, which is what I did to mine). If one handle definately doesn't have a number then hopefully the other might? My boot lock seemed to have a number in the middle of it too which could be a key though its been worn a bit so I need to guess a digit - I need to find a friendly key cutter to see if we can work out what it was.
