Wetness?

Been poking around the van Sunday and lifted the rubber mats in the cab only to find they are wet underneath - leaked from the washer bottle maybe? Condensation? Anyway...

My issue is the rubber is not allowing the wetness to evaporate so the water is being held against the cab floor. Not a problem ATM, as the floors and paint are still in good condition and I can just wipe it out but is there anything I can do to encourage the water to evaporate? Or just check it often?

there are also rubber grommets behind the front grill - check they haven't been removed at some point and not replaced. Usually very draughty when your driving along if they're missing (yes, I know these vans are draughty at the best of times).

Also the windscreen water jet mountings....

if you have any areas of corrosion round the screen rubber ( and who dont ? ) bank on a leaky screen rubber. the rot behind will also have to be sorted . do it soon as poss as it dont get better!!

Me and my mate had the same problem as yours, its quite hard to tell with a hose pipe where it actually comes from, however mine was the jet nozzles, they where loose to the touch i sealed them with some silicone. My mates was the rubber around the windscreen wiper spindle, an extra rubber washer sorted his. Good Luck!

You don't have to have any visible evidence of this for it to be under the rubbers. I chased around (replacing door seals, rehanging door, checking wiper holes, jet holes and everything)

There is plenty threads about showing the bit behind the seal that collects the water (in both corners - it runs between the windscreen and the seal) I found on a wet day if you poke the INSDIE of the bottom corners of the seal - you can encourage water to come out inside the vehicle.
Another clue is rusty streaks on the panel(s) by your knees.

I have my fingers in my ears on this one as we have many other things to do on the van at the mo. It will get done but.....it isn't bad at the mo.....

Am going to try winter with vaseline along the bottom corners of the windscreen seal (on the outside) in an attempt to keep the water out.

1) Leave the carpets/rubber mat out, and drive with a bit of heat and a window cracked open.. o/wise prop them up at the edges at night, but this is not very efficacious. Hot air gun on low will flash it all off after wiping out..

2) Spotless floors without dust/rust/mud/grunge makes a big difference, nothing holds water worse than grunge - dry it and vacuum as you brush. Those thick rubber mats with large holes (~£5 each) are not a bad temporary solution, esp. in the back and where lots of mud gets dragged in (syncros!)

3) If mat not removed, then encourage the leak to run ONTO the mat, not under it... ?

Mine van has the same problem, driver side only, but the water in mine collects above the rubber mat, then ( I THINK ) it just evaporates, its there some times and not others

As per Rob, Rozzo & HarryMann,

Check for corrosion around windscreen rubber.

Drill drainage holes in floor. Paint any exposed metal. Before drilling check under vehicle first and drill holes at lowest point naturally

Lift carpets when not in use & keep well ventilated.

check the aerial hole too, thats where mine was letting water in.
