Fuel hoses....plastic sleeve?

Post by kiwirob »

Hi All

Reading the FAQs lately and DID have a fuel leak at the T junction in the engine bay of my 2.1 DJ.
I replaced the hoses going to the injectors with £7 Fuel hose from ALL Parts in Wycombe.

However, the old hoses had a plastic sleeve with what appear to be burn marks on them... this new pipe has a larger outside diameter and the sleeve doesn't fit the new fuel line.

Are these plastic sleeves heat protection?....the pipes do go across the engine from the T junction and rest on it.
Do I need new sleeves?
Where do I get them?
Is the new fuel hose heat resistant?
Will my engine explode?
HELP!

I think it may just be abrassion protection, the engine shakes around a fair bit, and the sleeve rubs on the other engine components rather than the fuel line. When the engine is running the fuel pump is circulating fuel around at a fair rate, so I dont think that it is heat protection. It does get hot though, especially when the engine is turned off. There is nothing there which it would touch that is over 90deg C.

I am sure someone like demontweeks will do a sleeve that will fit.
