OK,
I bought a new gasket tray jobby to try and fix the leaking sump, best made plans of mice and men, its got a nice thick rubber seal on it .
So stripped it all down, had to drill and trap one of the offending bolts, replaced it all, torqued up the bolts, another snapped, sorted that by increasing it to a 1/4 instead of the 6mm.................
Long and short on it, ITS STILL LEAKING , is it possible for a sump to warp as there is no sign of deformity near to the bolt but the threads in the sump feel weak and sloppyish. Its like they would rather strip the thread than torque up.
The other thing is that I have lost my oil pressure since I have done this and the engine seams to be nosier, I imagine that will be because the oil flow has stopped.
What can it be, oil pick up, the oil tray gasket
I am really confused and getting PI**ED OFF with it and I am stating to think that either the vehicle is jinxed or I am
Any ideas please HELP and not get another van, its always the bl**dy engine or gearbox but the gearbox is great, at the moment

Its not broke? fiddle with it until it is, then you can fix it

I don't know about your gasket problem. My mate always critisises me for using gasket goo when none is specified. But I like to make sure. I was going to suggest that you may be overtightening your fixings and distorting the sump but you talk about torqueing so i guess that one is out. I think the more worrying thing is the loss of oil pressure. When i changed the oil pump on my 2.1 waterboxer I had trouble getting it up so to speak. I felt in between the devil and the deap blue sea on that one because I needed to rev the motor to get the suction going but didn't want to run the bearings. In the event I reinstalled it using plenty of oil. To be honest I didn't know why it took so much priming but it did. I do not like using that silicon based goo anywhere near oil ways as it can extrude and block oil passageways. If your motor is on a slope that can sometimes give the pump a challenge. Hey it looks like the sumps of again, at least I am getting good at it now
I really wish I wasn't though
I put the evil goo on it but just a little though but there was a shed load on before.
I am getting around the idea of putting the other engine in, so there goes a week or two as I need to get it all cleaned, painted and checked over. Whist its out I may as well put the new pistons in it and do the valves.
