engine cutting out ???

Post by daschmoo »

Morning

Had a nightmare lastnight... was 1 mile into my 120 mile trip home from working away and the van just cut out! It re-started ok but then about a mile later did exactly the same. Just before it cut out the temp/level light flashed like mad (if that means anything... water had been checked and needle on temp guage was normal). Again I got it re-started and continued onto the motorway (maybe a little stupid but I'm no quitter! ) Anyway the problem has now gone after a nerve-wracking, steady, non-overtaking journey home and the van seems to be running perfectly normally??? Is this likely to have been some muck in the carb etc or something more sinister? Don't wanna go through the same on my way to or from Vanfest!

It's a 1985 2l petrol (manual) if that makes any difference!)

i would be checking your battery connections and the earths, soounds to me like a bad connection..........

the main wire from the alternator to the battery(via the starter motor) is known to rot internally, and break down.

its not mechanical,, the water level light gives that away, its electrical,i'd say
