WIPERS - Not working

Post by cuckooland »

Hey guys
Great web site , i am new to all this .

I have a 1986 1.6TD , brilliant van ,had an oil problem earlier this year , sent to the Garage where they (after about 2 weeks of checking) replaced the rocker cover gasket. They also said that the oil light in the dash wasn't working properly so they replaced it ,

ever since then :-
a) absolutely no wipers working at all
b) washers not working
c) oil light is permanently on.

before you ask , yes i did go back to the garage and they said it was nothing to do with what they had done and they would need to have it in again (tossers)

Just wondering before i wade through the tech pages if anyone might have some quick fix ideas.
thanks in advance :D

first port of call, fusebox.
check the fuse AND the wiper relay if present

second port of call multiplug that connects to the wiper switch on the column.

third port of call the earth wire from the wiper motor

then if none of those, it gets tricky........

report back!

X relay is in position number 8, the relay is number 18. Wiper relay is position 10, relay is number 19, 99 or just a bent peice of metal depending on spec. If its the X relay bust your heater fan shouldn't work eather. If the wiper relay is bust the wipers should still work on fast speed as thats got nowt to do with the relay.

Can't remember which fuses do the wipers (there are 2!) but the fusebox cover will have them explained on the back of it (if the preveous owner hasn't thrown it away).

All relays and fuses are in the main fusebox under the dash on the left - look in the glovebox.
