Is my 2.0L Aircooled too slow?

Have a heart for us with little 1600cc babies, we really have to work the revs to mantain any momentum, it can be hard work so I've noticed, but hey I think we all get used to nice modern powerful engines that pull through any gear.

I'd have thought that as long as the engine is well mantained correct oil and elvel etc, then its not going to do much harm if any, as they were designed that way.

I really wouldnt be too concerned. Our 20l Aircooled is exactly the same.
( I had to suffer the shame of being overtaken my a mobile library on the way to Cornwall this year ! )
Use the dots on the speedo, jump up and down in your seat when going downhill to get more speed, and pray to the 4 winds to assist you on every journey.
Alternativley, just stick some chilled tunes on, admire the view there, high above the other drivers and hedges.

Is my 2 litre A/C too slow?

I agree with all contributers.Yours sounds about right to me.
I cruise at 60-65 in my Holdsworth pop top,bit less when away on hols as with four on board plus two big dogs and two weeks camping rubbish,I like to try and maintain 22-23 mpg. Ho-Hum!
Hills are all about antcipation, momentum and revs!Long motorway inclines are the worst, when fourth is too high and you have to hang on to third playing chicken with the artics!! until you can change up again.
Use the speedo dots and try to think ahead with traffic and hang on to your hard earned speed!
I am having a top-end rebuild at moment,as compression was down a bit on two cylinders,so hopefully she will run a bit better.
However still a heavy old van with only a claimed 68bhp when new, so am not expecting miracles.
Enjoy your van :ok
Hmm How much did you say?For that you gotto be joking....

Sounds about right then 8) I'll get driving it and see how it goes..

My speedo cable is sticking out through the passenger front wheel hub about 2-3 inches out... What new parts will i need to fit? Just the cable, or a nut aswell?

Cheers :D

My van would easily get past 75mph if I let it, but as has been said previously It's an old van so I don't tempt providence, however I can cruise all day at 56mph, occasionally touching 70+ if I need to - or I'm not paying attention.

It does need to be 'encouraged' up mountains though.

sounds like all you need is the dustcap (the centre cap that the cable is poking out through) as the cable has a square on the end which should be in a square hole in the centre cap. it shouldnt be able to come through past the square bit on the end.
remove the centre cap and push the cable back in,, twist it slowly when its almost right in to locate it in the speedo on the dash then fit a new dust cap and the tiny circlip to stop the cable going back in through the cap.
sound confusing but its very simple when you look and see how it works.
