Fuel : expansion tank : breather pipes

Post by jaylo264 »

There are two conflicting possibilities on the WIKI for the pipes which come out of the top of the under-arch expansion tanks -- my van is a 1986 DG-- one says they go into the chassis member and thus to air , another says they join together ("from one tank to the other ").
Can anyone clarify this for me please ?

Be careful gas and diesel are different and even the gas ones are a little different as well. I just went through this [see my post on mystery vents] .On some [or all ] gas trucks the top vents of the breather bottles do connect together, where as diesel do not-they vent to outside. Check carefully in the Bentley, there are 3 different systems. This is not something you want to get wrong.

Thanks, Harry , but no-- i saw this already on the wiki , and if you care to look , the two wee funnel thingies marked " 17 " just hang in tha air, as t`were .  :? -- so why do the poipes have the boody funnel on ? ? .
The diag i like best is from Mocki in wiki, where the two pipes join with a tee and THEN hang free in the air !

I personally think the two exp tanks SHOULD be joined together , which is wot i shall do unless someone can convince me otherwise .............

caveman-- what do you call LPG ?

True caveman...

That was for all 1986 as shown (no-variants), the lines leading to the engine are different for diesel/petrol of course and where those 'end-pieces' from the float-valves (14) terminate is the question?

This is the only other diagram that might elucidate any differences (for the 2.1 with emissions carbon cannister)
