My old 1.6 t25 had the hot pipe from the head coolent pipe to hose connected to the bottom of the rad and cold to the top of the rad.Is this correct? I never had any problems with overheating had it for ten years.mocki wrote:the searing performance of the 1.6TD is just too much

It's a diesel, it don't need lifting to bleed.
Just fill as much as possible and then gently drive about 1-2miles and then bleed it in a layby - works for me every time.

I had this on a 1.6TD engine in a early van not so long ago.
Loads of problems, coolant leaks, if coolant can get out air can get in!
Thermostat wasn't opening properly.
Broken bleed nipple on rad meant it had to come off and get drilled out.
Fan wiring was all c0cked up and on all sorts of bodgey wires and switches.
Jacking the van up is a load of cack, all you have to do to bleed it is rev it.
I've never had to jack a van up to bleed it.
Dodgey thermostat would be first port of call, then check fan wiring and operation.
When it overheats is the radiator warm? all the way up?

I would have thought Thermostat - it happened to mine but mine was obvious when I looked at it - but this guy changed his water pump so I presumed he might have looked at his thermostat
This is what I found when I checked mine - lovely gasket blue stuff, yumm yumm
