Unfortunatly this weekend I will be away on a Land Rover offroading event so can make Stafford.......was hoping to find something in the scrappie to fit.

I am sure VW didnt make a one off starter (well they dint make it as it says Lucas on the outside) but you know what I mean....there must have been something else it was used on

starter

Post by angry vanagon »

the t25 diesel starter is unique and not fitted to anything else in the vw/audi range and i imagine you wont find anything to fit from another manafacturer i know there isnt anything in the breakers round chesterfield as i live there and would have already had it as a spare for my diesel van. locally for a new one try gsf in sheffield or for second hand volksheaven in doncaster

cheers for the replies........well as it is a lucas unit I will recon it myelf, as lucas parts are easy and cheap to come by

I aint paying the best part of £100 for one......the only prob with mine is the cable from the solenoid to the motor has corroded.

£100 sounds well over the top.......I have never paid more than £30 for a recon exchange on something this small

You can pay 60 quid for a recon or 160 first find out whats been reconditioned.
The one i have has had the lot done i even asked if it was new as the case itself looks brand new.
If you skimp on a starter and do it on the cheap then how long before your in the "pooh" again

No, that was back up here today.

Yesterday was a trip back down to drop some stuff off, and a party in Alfreton.

Anyway have made a permanent repair now, cut off the wire, soldered a new piece to the motor and fitted a new crimp onto the other end......cost pennies and starts a lot easier now.I did pick up a set of brushes for it yesterday but was in a rush so didnt get chance to change them......they are usualy the main thing to wear out in a starter and are £2.29 with vat from lucas

I would have thought the starter motor itself wouldnt have been unique, the body maybe, like a lot of Fords where you unbolt the the casting off the end and swap motors.......time for the tape measure in the scrappies when I get 5 minutes, if I find one will let you know
