steering colum clip thing??

hi all
i was driving the van today and as cornering felt somthing fall on my leg .....found a spring clip thing ... i have worked out it has come of the colum it fits around the plastic washer/collet half way up cliped it back in place went round the block and it came off again .....its only like a semi circle of wire with a v shape on each end > thease hold it in place > so can i just bend it slightly or what ??? colum has play with-out help me plzzzzz!!!

I think it is the spring that hold the black plastic cowling to the steering column

it certainly is,one clip and 2 screws hold the steering column surround on,the clip should be fixed on to the plastic cover and then clips over the steering column
