Fridge running on Gas at night

Just got back from our first weekend away in the van , we don't have a hook up and did'nt want to leave the gas on at night for the fridge, so is it safe to leave the fridge running on gas over night?

Yes.

Providing the fridge is properly installed and has a working flue ... although a suitable CO monitor/alarm is highly recommended

Same as above, as long as the vent is working and you have a drop out hole then of corse leave it on.

I agree, we've just been away for 4 weeks in France & the gas fridge was on 24hrs a day for the whole time, even when driving (says you can in my Electrolux manual that came with the van). Only problem we found was the noise when the fan/engine(?) came on in the fridge to keep the temperature.....not sure if there is a fix for this?

Clearly you have a later fridge than most fitted to the 25 ... this is very much NOT to be recommended for the average fridge

Oh and BTW

a suitable CO monitor/alarm is highly recommended

does NOT include the stupid pieces of beermat that change colour ..... the Fire Brigade use those to tell them what you died of when you're found in your van.

Thanks folks, it all appears to be installed ok but I'll get it checked, there's vents in the floor under the gas bottles and they're all clear, I saw some of them beermat type detectors in Halfords for +£20 so I'll give them a miss where can you get a proper one from?

You have me worried now

What is not to be recommended, running the fridge on gas for such a length of time or running it when driving? It's a late model (1991 was the German registration date), but I wouldn't know if the fridge is different or not from the norm. I will have to re-read the manual.

Some newer fridges have a flame out sensor and self-ignitor ... most (if any) older ones don't.

in the newer fridges there is a fan to keep air flowing around the heat exchanger at the back of the fridge, it comes in when the temp gets too high.

try turning the fridge to a lower setting, seems daft but if the fridge is not trying to works as hard to cool down it won't get as hot, therfore won't kick the fan in and in turn will be more efficient!

when we were in france rob (LHD) had problems with the fan on and the fridge not cooling enough, he put it on the lowest setting and hey presto, no fan and ice in the ice box!

as for driving with it running on gas i've always done that, just make sure it's turned off when you fill up with fuel!

The original Westy manual/fridge manual I have says its okay to drive with the fridge on gas...And before you say it, no it doesn't say anything about driving with the grill on...
