Help on pull out awning ideas

Hi All,

We have just got back from 4 weeks touring around France in the Westy, 5000 miles in total with not a hitch, talking of which we were towing a trailer as well

Anyway, we have a Traveller Tunnel awning but couldn't be a*s^d to put this up when we were staying for a couple of nights. My plan was to use the pole & clamp from the awning to fix just a top cover with two poles guyed out. Anyone got any ideas as to where I can get something like this from? I saw several, probably Dutch campers with similar things creating a cover between two tents. No offence to the Dutch but their camping equipment seems so much better than ours

I made this one myself, just simply for the reason mwheatley states, in that if you are touring, even putting up a Kyham is too much bother.

We found that if the wether was good, then just having the awning out was fine, and the kids ended up sleeping in a 30 quid Quechua pop up tent. We only put up the Kyham if we were staying for two nights, or it was raining. We have since not used the Kyham in England, just the awning.

It is made from 3x army emergency shelters at £4.50 each. Two old tent poles, and some old guy ropes. It is 2m longer than the van, and has Kador gusset sewn into the edge to attach to the aluminium awning channel. It is huge, and last weekend when free camping with syncroswede, we used it as a shelter, as where we were parked you could not put out the awning on the side of the dub. This worked a treat and we had a blazing fire, in the rain, sat in the dry.
I have sewn loops at strategic points to make it as vesatile as possible.

It rolls up very small, and can be put up in a minute or two.

Have to agree that bus shelter / syncrosimon shelter are great and quick. have used similar for years camping... and still will. We now have a 2.8m Caravanstore and like it. Little more stable as it has solid frame all around when setup, only tie-down is from outside top corners to van. Have end panel to block out wind/rain... would like front panel on some occasions.

E D I T: We find it is nice size for 4 people setting around talking / drinking / eating.... Shade for everyone... well, out of the rain for everyone this year.

I do agree i bought one ages ago but i find the biggest pain in the bum is if your 6 foot tall you cant stand up under it!!!

The canopy thingy James or the awning? Have you still got it?

i got the canopy which is too short head room wise, this one

ah yeah, i feel its not long enough width wise, but it was good when i had it, sold a couple of years back, they have gone up in price loads
