Water Pump Belt (1.6td)

Post by suedehead »

My water pump belt wore away and snapped over the weekend (my fault for not checking up on it).

I was stranded in Sheffield and needed to get to Bristol so managed to find a Halfords and get a belt. The belt that came off was 10x643 (which I think is the correct size) but the nearest size that I could get was 10x650. The belt is seems fine and got me from Sheffield to Bristol no problem, but should I replace it with a correct size one as soon as I can?

Also what is the correct way to fit it? I'm pretty sure it wasn't the way that I did it!

:D

Without knowing how you fitted it it would be hard to comment, its on int it?
Usually slacken the three bolts on the split pulley, remove 2 of them this keeps all the shims in place, new belt on and tighten bit at a time so as not to pinch the belt (turning the crank by hand)

You must havedecent pulleys as I have to fit a 10x625 with all the shims in place.

Oh and yes if it is tight enough I would be happy to leave it but get a spare as they are not available in the midlle of the night or whichever other awkward place/time they go.
