Recon engines and LPG

Having read through everything I can find on the available options - does anyone honour their warranty if you run on LPG....?

I get the impression from the threads that none of the mainstream recon offerings are happy with you running their engines on LPG to the point of this invalidating your warranty.

Am not desperately happy to be looking at £1500 for a fitted engine (after dropping and fitting costs) to be faced with no warranty after the running in period (on petrol).

Any views on this?

how will they know it's been run on LPG?

Because the bores will be glazed and the piston rings will not seal, it will then smoke for the rest of it's life.

Engines do need a certain amount of wear to take place for them to work properly and "bed in", without this wear the piston rings will not seal properly against the bores.

They are not saying don't use LPG, they are saying don't use it in it's running in period, and even then it is not healthy for an engine to run soley on LPG in my eyes.

When I spoke with a recon firm in basildon , they were most helpful and expressed preparedness to offer their two year warranty if i got my lpg mod done by steve at gasure-- just as long as i maintained the warranty schedule of twice yearly services , at basildon !
Round trip of about 1300 miles for me , about 25 less for you .

Hmmmm - just my point - although I am halfway there with the LPG conversion from Steve Gasure - but I don't think Basildon for servicing is likely........

i,m sure they would have to accept the servicing being done elsewhere by a qualified service centre. its the same with main car dealers,, they have to stand by the warranty if you have the service book stamped by a qualified outfit.

My Elite 2.1 had to be run in for 500 miles at less than 50mph and lower than 3,000 rpm on petrol .... that's quite easy doing my kinda mileage though

Then a bit more beans for the following 500 on gas/petrol and then ... off you go.

As Simon says the rings and barrels have to wear in together before the higher lpg temperature can glaze them.

3 months and nearly 7,000 miles later all seems fine
