Suspension upgrade

Post by CaliHarry25 »

Hi,
I'm thinking of upgrading the suspension on my van, lowering it at the same time.
I don't want a harsh ride though, any suggestions what set to go for?

Got Weitec 45mm springs, with fairly good standard shocks on my westy. Really happy with them, still give good ride with big alloys aswell.

AVO -50mm are the most common ones I sell for campers.
I also sell loads of Bilstein B4 dampers to go with them, that combination combination (no pun intended) will give a lower ride, better 'round the corners, better on the motorway and not too low so you can still get over kerbs and that.
Springs are modelled on standard VW -30mm springs so they give a very comfortable ride.
Bumpstops will need shortening by 2 ribs if it's a transporter, Westies and Caravelles will already have the right shorter bumpstops.
The Weitec springs are just that little bit stiffer and are a tad higher at the rear so more suited to Diesels or anyone who tows.

Thanks for info guys, food for thought as they say :?

The weitec springs, are the rear longer than the front ones? Making the van sit higher at the back?

With -40mm springs how do you find the clearance for the external lpg tank?

Had no problems with Gas tank or Water tanks, even fully loaded. Took it steady for a while at first, but don't even think about it now. Made a big difference at speed aswell, especially with the front spoiler, can cruise at 70mph without having to guess which directon it's going to go in next :?

I don't sell standard springs, I put them in the scrap bin.
