Bodywork cost advice for soon to be newby owner...

Post by mfunsta »

Hi... not sure if I'm in the right section but.... :D
I'm new to the forum and have started the long search for T25 campervan. Seen about 10 so far, various conversions, conditions etc...
Looking at an 83 Autosleeper VT20 at the mo and I am looking for a robust cost estimate to cure/action the following bodywork issues:

o/s sill heavy seam rash, panel good**
both rear side windows rust bubbling around edges, evidence of water ingress inside window edges (would it need windows out?)**
o/s rear arch seam rash, panel good**
o/s lower rear seam (middle/rear) lower seam rash, panel good**
front panel, 5 rust spots on panel below lower radiator grill, remainder panel OK**
very minor seam rash along bumper/front panel join**
small holes at top of seams on the front panel just below corners of windscreen, wet in both footwells (would it need windscreen out?)**
o/s front panel seam lower, minor seam rash**
original white paint faded/damaged, lower half respray including around front windscreen in Neptune Blue**

I realise that without seeing the van, it will be impossible to get an accurate estimate, was just after a ballpark figure in order to haggle a discount from the £4750 price.

And.... does anyone know of a reputable bodyshop in the Stoke-on-Trent area they would entrust their van to (will travel for peace of mind).

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hmm....for me anyway, overpriced for an 83 with bodywork issues but like you say, I haven't seen it in the flesh.

cheers for your input guys..
..like the conversion, but don't have any friendly bodyshop contacts so not confident about tackling rust issues yet, especially unknowns around windscreens and windows
..also, has been used as a tow vehicle for morgan racing..
.so I guess a few too many question marks..
..may offer him silly money just to see..
but many thanks for the info and if anyone knows of a clean Autosleeper VT20 with a DG or more let us know, will post a wanted ad soon
cheers
tim
