some paints (enamel particularly), silicone and wax polish, Back to Black, etc, all can cause reactions.

Agree with all thats said already...

For the final finish after either 1000 or 1200 grit I would use rubbing compound. I swear by Farecla G5 or G3. www.farecla.com

You can get it on eBay and also Halfords. You can apply it by hand but I use a polishing mop (like a large angle grinder with stick on foam pads) and lots of water.

The best thing about this paste is it washes off easily with water and leaves a really good shine. You barely need to polish afterwards.

One of my previous projects here... all done with cans, wet and dry and G5 paste.

Very impressive bud! Love the bike too, My friend had a nc30 when we all had 400's, loved the noise!

I've got some g3 and a polishing head, so will give it a go at the weekend, is g5 a finer paste than g3? g10 is the proper fine stuff isnt it?

Cheers!

Most decent car accessory shops sell it. Look in the primer section of where the paints are displayed and check the labels. If not, look in yellow pages or Yell.com and search for Paint Factors (i.e. Ketts), or anything that searches for Automotive Paints. As I said, your standard anti rust primer such as Hammerite is suitable for all paints, just check on the tin.

Cheers, most of the motorfactors near me arn't decent and didn't have any suitable primers that say any paints, I took it to bare metal in the end and it seems to have done the job. It was a patch around the fuel filler that, had had paint, as was noticably a different colour or maybe fuel..?
