Missing bolts on engine mount (where can I get some more)?

Post by campervankatie »

Hi, we have just managed to fit a new silencer on our type 25 1.7 diesel camper. On checking for leaks etc we noticed that about 3 or 4 bolts were missing from the engine mount near the exhaust on the nearside/ kerbside. Can someone please tell me where I can buy some new bolts, I know that they use a 13mm spanner but I don't know what size bolt to ask for and if I can get them at B&Q or do I need to go to a VW place.
More importantly the mount and the bolt holes no longer marry up. Would we be best jacking up the van or the engine to try and line up the holes?
Thank you for any answers, Katie

Aye - a gentle jack should help line them up - maybe a crowbar too. Nothing special about the bolts. find a bolt near enough the right diameter (ie shove it in hole) then go buy some bolts. Locking nuts might help.

If they use a 13mm spanner it's an 8mm bolt wipe a little copper grease on the thread so in the future if you need to get them out you have a chance

Hi, thanks for the advice, we bought some M8 bolts and cut them down as couldnt source the proper ones. Jacking the engine helped to line up the holes. Unfortunately managed to tweek one bolt a little too much and snap it off so we now have 3 bolts on the mount, fingers crossed. Anyway thanks.
