Split charge Kit

Sorry its me again

Can anyone piont me the right direction for a split charge relay kit, just incase I find out that mine is broken

I have found one on Bus Depot for $24 but I dont really know if it is good for the European market

Just Kampers do one for £20 with all the wires, relay and also quick release battery terminals!

Thanks for that but I have heard that there are some gadgets that are cheap that do the same thing without having to connect to the alternator.

How you gonna charge anything up without using the Alternator?

Most split charge systems use the output from the alternator (the one that goes to the alternator light on the dashboard) to energise the relay ONLY when the engine is running.

You could have a switch to do the same job, but you would have to remember to switch on when you are driving and off when you are camping. otherwise you could flatten your starter battery while camping.

There may be other ways to switch the relay (like voltage level detectors) but the alternator is fairly foolproof.

That is the one that i had orinally seen and I thought that there where devices that didnt need attaching to the alternator

These 'smart' relays have been around for a while and are extremely simple to install. They connect directly to the main battery and as soon as the relay senses that the main battery is charged it connects the leisure battery to the starter battery. Job Done!
