clutch problem?

hi there everyone,been to leeds this weekend and on the way back it appears my dads clutch has gone on his t25 holdsworth vision.it was hard to engage gears,revving but hardly moving and when it came to a halt on the m62 there was leakage from somewhere near the water pump.is this the prognosis of a clutch gone west?he got the aa to tow him back to rochdale on a lowloader.

oh yeah and i forgot to ask how much should a clutch cost? cheers guys and gals

There are two things that spring to mind when reading your post; engine reving but hardly moving......do you mean in gear with clutch released? yes? then definately the clutch it knackered.
But the fly in the ointment so to speak is your second statement; there was leakage from somewhere near the water pump.....Now if that's clutch fluid we can assume the hydraulics (the slave cylinder or pipe) has also failed......the strange thing being the two things (the three part clutch, cover/centre plate and release bearing) are seperate from the hydraulic release side of the mechanism.
In other words.... USUALLY! only one thing goes wrong at a time.
Anyway, three part clutch costs around £90 with around 2.5-3 hours labour.
Clutch master cylinder just under £40 with around an hour to fit and bleed.

cheers for that red westie,am going down my dads now to have a look inside the engine bay,we couldn't yesterday 'cos it was fully loaded up and raining so he just got taken home by the aa.motor was in gear with clutch fully out but barely moving.so you are saying to check the slave cylinder first?there was plenty of fluid in reservoir.cheers

As I say...two faults.
If the vehicle was in gear and the revs rising without the vehicle accelerating, then the clutch is definately slipping either worn out/broken or jammed but the later is rare.
You need to establish where the leak is coming from and what type of fluid is leaking. A master cylinder failure causes a leak in front of the engine (under rear seat area) slightly to the left side, N/S, a few feet forwards of the water pump.
