Need some help

Post by aardvark »

Hi Folks, just back from an 1100 mile round trip.....van drove like a dream.....parked it up on driveway and it sat there all week. Anyway decided i would use it to go to work but it wouldnt start, turned over a couple of times, plenty life in the battery but it kicked once quick rev and then it died, continued to turnover but no joy. Had a look this evening, put some more petrol in just in case but after a look see it appears there is no fuel getting to the filter in the engine bay, plenty spark and it has new plugs, rotor, dizzy and leads and there is plenty of life in these. Could the pump be gone and could it happen just like that, its an 83, 1.9 caravelle not sure of engine type so sorry about that, any help advice would be greatly appreciated.....how easy to fit an electric alternative, is there one? or how can I get hold of a mechanical one used or new the inlet pipes on the one I have are adjacent to one another.
Many Thanks

check the fuel filter just after the fuel tank.its probably blocked.replace it if need be.and get rid of the one in the engine bay.its not needed....

thanks for the response ROB......Both filters are brand new, just on before I went away over the summer, the one in the engine bay was already there when I purchased the van so just changed it anyway, a mate reckons he has a pump lying around so i am going to give that a try, would the pump fail just like that and will the filter in the engine make any difference good or bad

Thanks

your not doing the pump any good.making it drag fuel through 2 filters.like i said.get rid of the engine bay one.you dont need two...

Will take engine bay one of tomorrow and see what happens, i did wonder why there was two as there is only one in the haynes manual but as i said it was there when i got the van so thought dont move it just replace.. i can see the logic in only have the one....could this have damaged the pump.

it certainly would of made it work harder.so if the pump was on its way out.this would of helped it die quicker.imo....

could this have damaged the pump.
