gear box seal

Post by zack »

how,s it going, have my engine out putting a new cluch in due to oil leaking out of the gearbox. Have to put a new seal on the shaft (sprig something). Would any one have any tips how to get it in even so that there is no more leaks cheers zack.

use a tube, but if it's been leaking big time, because either the spigot bearing has collapsed or the input bearing inside the box then the oil thrower on the back of the bellhousing may be worn and the new seal won't keep the oil at bay on its own for long, I'd recommend removing the bellhousing and assessing the damage and box condition and seeing how much play in input shaft, it should really only move 5mm at the end, and then you can refresh the oil as well.
