After having a go at making and fitting my headlining, which went really well, I thought I'd move on to custom covering my door panels.
This is the first one I've done so far, and I'm really pleased with it
I have to say, I'm seriously considering making them to sell, or maybe starting some kind of custom upholstery business, but I know I need a bit more practice first.
I just thought I'd post the pic on here and get some feedback on what you all think????

I've used a scrim back foam which is much easier to sew on the machine

like the door cards, could definately get some busines but the devils in the detail and the finish, if you keep that tight and good quality they should sell all day long, price them right as well, dont do yourself out, anyone can sell £10 notes for a £5, it doesnt make you sales man of the year!!.
good luck, will give you a nudge when i come to do mine.
how did you do your headlining? mines minced and needs doing? how and how mutch.
I used my old headlining as a pattern for the new headlining, which made the job so much easier. The whole job would have also have been much easier if the windows were out, but as this wasn't really an option, I fitted it with windows in - a bit tricky, but definately possible.
I used original VW Perforated material, all sections stitched using extra strength polyester rott proof thread on my industrial machine, so all nice and strong.
Cost was £70.00 for the material, then a few hours cutting and stitching it all together. I also spent a good full day on the fitting.
that looks like a v nice job, may leave it upon your advice until i get it resprayed, then do the lot.
i amy be brave and do it my self, thanks for the advice
Hey Em. I haven't got any grab handles to fit at the mo.
I bought a couple on ebay, so should be here soon.
The Industrial machine really makes a difference. I tried with a domestic, but it struggled on ceratin bits, and as its my girlfriends machine, I thought I'd better get something else sorted out before I blew it up
Jaymo,
I'll be wanting my 7 captain seats re-upholstered nexy year and can supply my own covering which is ............. wait for it, ex-army tent canvas. I cut the tent up into large bits and washed them on 95 degrees, then ironed them. Hehehe.
I think they will look great, but then, I'm demented. Hehehe.
Keep going with your practise. You know it makes sense.
Eric.
Not really an unsociable sod, just gives a good impression.
