Roof swapping

Post by vic20 »

Hi folks

Not sure if this is a technical question or camper but here goes:

We are thinking of changing the roof on the Karisma for a pop top. The logic for this is:

For
Can use the van for more everyday use - lower fits in car parks
more streamined = better mpg? [only 1 brick high]
More beds - depending on roof

Against
Loss of permanent storage
Loss of originallity [not huge issue]
Requires effort
Where would i get additional storage [tow bar box / trailer]

Questions would be:
Do i or don't i?
is it possible
how do you remove the existng roof without damage
do people want to swap rooves

This is not something that i am looking to do right away, but trying to assess the [many?] pitfalls

Many thanks
Joe

i would be checking car park heights if i were you........ when i had my pop top i still couldnt get in most car parks, it was still over 6ft, and as for fuel econ dont kid yourself, the pop top might be lower, but its not sealed and the air gets in. My velle didnt do any less mpg when i had a high top on it, and didnt catch any more wind, and it was a full size high top.

that said, i might know where there is a pop top coming off soon, not too far from you

is it possible Yes
how do you remove the existng roof without damage carefully do people want to swap rooves nope

I have just gone from pop top to high top .could never get into many carparks with pop top and as for fuel consumption and tipping over at roundabouts I say there is no difference in driving a high top
