1.6TD Rev Counter - Not Working

Post by T2Andy »

1.6TD Rev Counter not working.

What to look for?

Looked at the alternator, there is the normal wires plus a single one to a seperate terminal, assume this is the wire.

What can I check up front? Is there any tests I can do to find out what is broken?

Thanks

Also the van has had a turbo boost gauge fitted, maybe this was fitted because the tacho had stopped?

Yes, the single wire to the W terminal is the one, good contact all through?

check alternator output at B+ terminal should be 13.5-14.5v DC with engine running to check "w" output is ok set tester to AC voltage test output at "w" terminal should be around 14v AC if not then possible alternator fault if outputs are ok then you need to be looking at wiring or tacho circuit fault (try testing at at clocks plug for "w" feed)
